Posted by on May 18, 2009 in CRM 4.0, Customizations, JavaScript |

Hello all,

Have you ever wanted to see the total no. of outstanding/completed activities on a Case, Account, Opportunity, Contact etc..?

Well now you can, simply add the following JavaScript code to the onLoad event of the entity, it will query the webservice and it will give you the exact count of open/closed activities.

Update: 9th March 2010 – I have updated the code below and tested.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

Add custom toolbar buttons to the Case Entity form.

Posted by on May 17, 2009 in CRM 4.0, Customizations, JavaScript |

Hi All,

Have you ever wanted to add some toolbar buttons to the CASE/CONTACT/ACCOUNT form?

Well now you can, you can use the ISV.config provided by CRM.

  1. Export the ISV Config Customizations from CRM
  2. Edit the XML file
  3. Find the <entity name=”incident”> node and add the following – I couldn’t paste the XML because of wordpress limitations.

  4. Note: the following are custom images: taskicon.gif, emailicon.gif and phonecallicon.gif.

  5.  Save the XML and import into CRM and publish the customizations.

Code explantion:

JavaScript="locAddActTo(4210)" PassParams="0" WinParams="" WinMode="0" Client="Web, Outlook" AvailableOffline="true"

Here we are using the CRM javascript function locAddActTo() and using the entity identifier (this being a phone call) which is located in the SDK and we are telling CRM to show this button is Outlook and the web version of CRM

JavaScript="resolve();" PassParams="0" WinParams="" WinMode="0" Client="Web, Outlook" AvailableOffline="true"

We are using the resolve() function on the case entity form which will resolve the case like you would when going to the actions menu > resolve case

Increase E-mail Attachment Size

Posted by on Jan 4, 2009 in CRM 4.0, General |

The default attachment file size limit in Microsoft Dynamic CRM 4.0 is 5 MB.

There is good reason for this – as a general rule you should be placing some restrictions on the amount of file data that can enter CRM so that the database can maintain a reasonable size and so that performance is optimized. However, your business may find the need to increase this size a little in order to handle larger file attachments.

Here are the instructions to increase the file size limit to 10 MB.  You can go larger than this, but pay close attention to the table size and performance over time as you want to keep CRM running as well as possible. Note – even though the System Settings option looks like this it would apply to email attachments only, it does apply to “notes” type attachments as well.  Finally, this procedure to change the max attachment size is not an officially published recommendation, so use this at your own risk.

How to increase the max attachment size in CRM 4.0:

1.           Open the application web.config (C:\Inetpub\CRM\web.config).

2.           Locate the <httpRuntime> key within the <system.web> element and change the values to the following:

<httpRuntime executionTimeout=”9999″ maxRequestLength=”10240″/>

3.           Locate the <httpRuntime> key within the <system.web> element of the <location path=’MSCRMServices”> element, and change it to the following:

<httpRuntime maxRequestLength=”10240″/>

4.           Save and close the web.config.

5.           Open the CRM web application (http://crm).

6.           Navigate to Settings | Administration | System Settings.

7.           Click the E-mail tab.

8.           Change the maximum file size (in kilobytes) field to 10240.

9.           Click Ok to save the changes.

10.        Perform IISReset.

Synchronize CRM Contacts into OAB (Offline Address Book).

Posted by on Sep 18, 2008 in CRM 4.0, Deployment |

One problem that i have had with clients with the Outlook Client installed is that it doesn’t automatically sync. contacts from CRM into outlook for the purpose of sending emails etc.

Heres how you would enable it for your users and clients:

  • Click on the CRM menu in Outlook

  • Then click on the ‘Address book’ tab then click on the second options shown ‘Match all contacts in Microsoft Dynamics CRM

  • The following window should appear (after you synchronize with CRM, click on options > sync with CRM), after that your contacts should appear in the address book:

Hope this helped!
